1. Why the schedule matters
Puppies and kittens need to start vaccination before maternal antibodies fade, minimizing the immunity gap. WSAVA 2024 emphasizes "at least one core dose completed at 16 weeks of age."
2. Core vaccines
- 🐶 Dogs: DHPP (Distemper, Hepatitis, Parvo, Parainfluenza) + Rabies. Plus monthly heartworm prevention.
- 🐱 Cats: FVRCP (Herpes, Calici, Panleukopenia) + Rabies (outdoor). FeLV recommended for all cats under 1 year.
3. Standard primary series (Korea)
Puppies receive 5 DHPP doses at 6/8/10/12/14–16 weeks + Corona/Kennel at 8/11 weeks + Rabies at 12 weeks. Kittens get 3 FVRCP doses at 6/10/14 weeks + Rabies at 12 weeks + 2 FeLV at 8/11 weeks. This calculator generates the full schedule from birth date.

4. Booster intervals
WSAVA/AAFP recommend 1-year booster after primary series, then triennial for DHPP/FVRCP. Korean clinics often default to annual boosters; antibody titer testing can replace boosters for core vaccines.
5. Heartworm prevention
Monthly prevention during mosquito season (Apr–Nov in Korea, year-round ideal). Blocks L3 larvae before they mature into adult worms (30–45 day window). Options: oral (Heartgard, Nexgard), topical (Revolution), annual injection (ProHeart).
6. Rabies
Legal requirement in Korea. Municipal free-vaccination campaigns run in April and October. International travel requires rabies vaccine + 30-day to 6-month quarantine + antibody titer test.
