FAQ — Frequently Asked Questions

The most common questions about vaccination timing, side effects, and clinic visits.

Q1My pet already had one dose from the breeder. How do I enter that?

Check the completed doses in the "Completed doses" section — the calculator will start from dose 2. Confirm the vaccine brand and date from the paperwork so continuity is preserved.

Q2I missed a scheduled dose. Do we have to restart?

If the interval exceeds 4 weeks, effectiveness drops. Ask your vet; after 16 weeks of age, 2 additional doses often replace the full primary series. The calculator flags doses >30 days late as "Overdue".

Q3Why do WSAVA and Korean schedules differ?

WSAVA considers 3 primary doses sufficient globally, but Korean clinics often use 5 doses due to higher parvo/distemper prevalence. This calculator defaults to the Korean standard (DHPP x5, FVRCP x3).

Q4Do indoor pets need rabies vaccination?

In Korea, rabies vaccination is legally required for all mammals, including indoor pets. Free municipal campaigns run twice yearly. International travel or relocation also requires proof of rabies antibody titer.

Q5I am worried about side effects. What should I watch for?

For 24–48 hours, monitor (1) appetite/energy, (2) swelling at injection site, (3) vomiting or diarrhea, (4) facial swelling or difficulty breathing (anaphylaxis). Items 2–4 warrant immediate vet contact. Avoid bathing or intense exercise on the day of vaccination.

Q6Can antibody titer testing replace booster shots?

Yes for DHPP and FVRCP core vaccines — measure immunity directly. Rabies and Leptospirosis cannot be replaced by titer. Consider titer for pets 3+ years old or with allergic history.

Q7What order for vaccines, neutering, and parasite prevention?

Typical order: (1) complete primary series by 16 weeks → (2) spay/neuter at 4–6 months → (3) monthly heartworm/parasite prevention year-round. Wait at least 1–2 weeks between vaccination and surgery.

Q8Is FeLV really necessary for cats?

WSAVA/AAFP recommend initial FeLV for all cats under 1 year. Adult cats need annual boosters only if they go outdoors or live in multi-cat households. Strictly indoor solo adults may skip.

Q9Does this replace my clinic records?

No. This is a WSAVA/AAFP-based reference only. Actual vaccination records and prescriptions must come from your veterinary clinic. Use the ICS reminders and PDF for personal tracking only.

Q10I have multiple pets — can I manage them together?

Currently, one pet at a time. Enter each pet separately and download individual ICS files. Adding the name field personalizes the calendar titles for easy sorting.
